My dream came true
in the fall of 1973

Armed with a degree in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University, I began my apprenticeship with a small firm at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Long Lake Road in the heart of Bloomfield Hills.

  • I enthusiastically applied my creativity and honed my design skills working on varied sites found in this incredible city of mature trees, rolling hills and small lakes. The gates and walls on Martell, the 1928 period residential architecture and the aesthetics of Cranbrook served as inspiration, influencing my journey to become the best landscape architect I could possibly be.
  • Less than seven years later, in the spring of 1980, I founded Michael J. Dul & Associates, Inc., and developed an energetic and diverse award winning design team. Recent honors earned include state recognition for Birmingham's Booth Park and Fire Station Garden from the American Society of Landscape Architects. Since 2004, Detroit Home Magazine's national independent panel of judges acknowledged the firm in each of its Spring Awards issues.
  • Then, in 2010, the readers of Detroit Home voted the firm Best Landscape Designer. In the fall of 2011, the Michigan chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects selected Michael J. Dul & Associates as Outstanding Firm of the Year for outstanding design and contributions to the profession.
  • In 1988, my wife Annette and I purchased a home in the City of Bloomfield Hills, where we reside today.
  • The mayor appointed me to the Bloomfield Hill's Planning Commission in 2009 and I served for two years. In 2010, the City Commission approved my appointment to the board of Preservation Bloomfield. Today I serve as vice chairman.
  • As a 24-year resident, I'm proud to announce my candidacy for one of the two open City Commissioner seats. My 32 years as an award-winning landscape architect and successful business owner uniquely qualify me to help build a Strong Commission for a Better City.
